There’s something about the holidays that bring out all the nuts! I mean that not only in the sense of friends and family members, but also in the sense of literal nuts. And these gingerbread spiced walnuts are about as festive as they come!
You more than likely already have these spices in your cupboard (and if you don’t, run out and get them because they are pretty much staples!) so all that is left to get is the walnuts.
1 cup walnuts
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Preheat your oven to 350°.
Mix the four spices together to create a blend and set aside for later.
Boil water in a medium sauce pan and using a metal strainer or basket, lower the walnuts into the boiling water and cook them for 2 minutes.
Remove the walnuts from the water and transfer them into a resealable bag. Pour the spice mixture into the bag and give them a good shake. (This is a step that is fun for kids to help with.)
Transfer nuts to a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes to lock in the flavour.
Store in a resealable bag or airtight container.
