Sometimes the best inventions are born out of failure! These tasty little bites actually came from a mistake I made but I like the look of them so much that I will be making them this way from now on.
These brie and pear appetizers are so fast to make and you don’t need to have any cooking experience to pull these off. I use pre-made frozen tart shells. In the past, I found that they were difficult to remove from the foil liner after baking because the honey made them stick so this time, I decided to ignore the tart shell package directions and remove the foil liner before making them. I was in a hurry and it didn’t occur to me that they wouldn’t hold their shape without the foil liners until I opened the oven and saw them flat!
In the end, this mistake was actually a fortunate one as I liked the look of the scalloped edges on the flat round and making them this way allows for more versatility as they could easily be served at the same party as another type of appetizer tart and not be redundant.
Plus, I didn’t have to wrestle with them to try to get them out of their liners. I will be making them this way from now on!
Remove store bought frozen tart shells from their foil liners and set them on a baking sheet, spacing them far enough apart for them to flatten. Into each tart shell, add a thick slice of brie, a slice of pear with the skin on and a pecan half. Sprinkle with nutmeg and drizzle each with honey.
Bake at 375° for 15-20 minutes, until golden. The cheese will be a bit bubbly. Serve.
